Each month Curzon Soho will be bringing back the favoured film tradition of the ‘Midnight Movie’ – a selection of firm favourites, exclusive previews, art-house beauties, live soundtracks and trashy fun. Join us in the bar from 9:30pm for DJs, art exhibitions and cult film/TV projections…soak up the atmosphere before being invited by your host to take your seats at 11:45pm for our very special feature, preceded by a specially curated low-budget short… so come early, grab a complimentary Vedett beer (avialable with every ticket purchased) and other goodies, and prepare to be grossed-out by our midnight movie…Unless of course you have to be at home before the street lights come on! *Themed attire and free-thinking attitude is strictly encouraged*

The launch date for Midnight Movies is Friday 29th Feb 2008 where we’ll have the book launch of ‘The Cult Film Reader’ (Open University Press) with the author (and Director of the Cult Film Archive & Cine-Excess): Xavier Mendik, who will be introducing one of his must-see movies. **** MOVIE NOW ANNOUNCED: SOCIETY (Brian Yuzna, 1989) ****

the definition is this…

“The screening of non-mainstream pictures at midnight was aimed at building a cult film audience, encouraging repeat viewing and social interaction in what was originally a countercultural setting. The term midnight movie is now often used in two different, though related, ways: as a synonym for B movie, reflecting the relative cheapness characteristic of late-night movies both theatrically and on TV, and as a synonym for cult film”.
