did you know…? Chaetophobia, Trichopathophobia, Trichophobia, and Hypertrichophobia are names of phobias relating to the fear of hair! Exte film poster

EXTE. A hair-raising Japanese-horror PREVIEW.

*** Exclusive preview of EXTE (Hair Extensions) FRI 27th JUNE *** BOOK NOW! Tickets: £8 in advance / £12 on door (Members £7/£10). 0871 7033988. In person: Curzon Soho Shaftesbury Ave, London.

The new J-Horror with brains…and HAIR! Chiaki Kuriyama (KILL BILL, BATTLE ROYALE) stars as Yuko, a budding hair stylist who is unaware that the hair extensions she uses on her clients are actually cursed… and are out for revenge. A satirical horror that delivers both in scares and laughs, this film marks director Sion Sono as one to watch. See it before the inevitable US remake!

For our hairy pre-screening party from 9.30pm, we encourage radical hairstyles, cool wigs and, if you dare…extensions.

MUSIC CONFIRMED: We are delighted to have Amanda Palmer from THE DRESDEN DOLLS DJ’ing before the screening.

With thanks to Revolver Entertainment and Melissa at Roadrunner Records.

DO YOU SKIDOO? The next Curzon Midnight Movie night revealed…

For the next Curzon Midnight Movie, take a trip down to Curzon Soho, London, for a swinging sixties themed flower power party before a screening of Otto Preminger’s SKIDOO; a satirical comedy involving gangsters, hippies, prison riots, LSD, a soundtrack by Harry Nilsson and starring Groucho Marx in his final role. Locked away by Preminger himself and never released on video and DVD, this is a rare opportunity to catch this groovy flick from 1968! And you have to stay for the credits (plus after-show goodies)!

Date: FRIDAY 30 MAY. The party begins at 9.30pm, with psychedelic music and a free beer with every ticket, with the film at 11.30pm. Prizes for the best dressed daddios!

Have you seen the groovy new promo for it?

Tickets on sale NOW £10 in advance (£12 on the door) – includes free beer! Book early to avoid disappointment! To book, visit our website or phone 0871 7033988 (booking fee applies) or visit our box office at Curzon Soho, 99 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 5DY.

We Welcome The ‘KING OF THE B’s’ on Fri 2nd May

Woop! Woop! We are pleased to announce that Curzon Cinemas and Cine-Excess will be presenting a Roger Corman tribute double bill screening on Friday 2nd May, with the man himself present to introduce his own personal selection!

First off is Corman’s masterpiece The Intruder, featuring a pre-Star Trek William Shatner in arguably his best (and most controversial) role as a man on a mission to stop the desegregation in schools and fan the flames of hatred in Southern USA.

Following that is horror classic The Masque of the Red Death starring Vincent Price and Jane Asher in this fine adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s classic story.

So if you want to see the man who launched the careers of Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorcese, Robert De Niro…(the list goes on), plus two films that deserve to be seen on the big screen, book your tickets now!

As usual the party kicks off at 9.30PM in the bar and a free beer awaits you with every ticket purchased. The introduction to the double bill will then begin at 11.30PM. If you don’t want to miss out, head to the box office on Shaftesbury Avenue, go online at Midnight Movies page or book by phone on 0871 703 3988 (booking fee applies online and by phone).

FRI 2nd MAY – Tickets IN ADVANCE: £12 / £10 members
(On Door £15 / £12.50 members)

Under the Influence x

I think we’re onto something here…

Last night’s launch event for Curzon Midnight Movies was a massive success! A sold out screen (it was sold out a few days before the 29th, even!), and lots of drunken merry-making in the bar meant that by the time we got into the screen we were all getting into the trashy 80’s comic grossness of our launch film ‘Society’. Cheers, applause, heckles (and a few loo trips) made it seem like we were really back in the good ol’ Midnight Movie days; proving we are more than a match for the typical loud American audiences! Who says us Brits can’t let our hair down? Eh?! (pics coming soon)…

big love x
